Landis+Gyr Releases Two-way M120 Gas Communications Module for Gridstream Network

The M120 module operates within the Gridstream’s mesh RF network to send and receive information between the meter and utility. The module offers a highly flexible design that adapts to the existing meter index and can be factory or field installed on most common gas meters. Taking reads directly from the gas meter register, the M120 records and reports both total consumption and interval data. This information provides the utility with load and consumption data that can be used to offer flexible rates and assist with capacity planning.

“Utilities that serve electric and gas consumers need a solution that provides similar data and control capabilities for gas meters,” said Tim Weidenbach, Vice President of Product Management at Landis+Gyr. “The M120 gas module makes any gas meter a smart meter by providing information that goes beyond a simple register read, and also allows the utility to change configurations and upgrade the module remotely.”

The M120 is designed to install on most gas meters manufactured since 1950. Once installed, the module provides auto registration on the Gridstream network. The module’s two-way communication capabilities support on-request reads while also making possible over-the-air firmware upgrades and configurations. Modules are powered by a battery with an anticipated life of 20 years.

The M120 gas module is available now for general delivery. Contact a Landis+Gyr sales representatives or distributor for order information.
