Landis+Gyr’s Latest System Release Supports Home Area Networking Applications
Command Center 4.0 is the first software release to provide end-to-end support for the ZigBee® Smart Energy Profile, which includes Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC)-based security. Using this interface, the advanced metering network can connect devices such as in-home displays, thermostats and direct load control devices in the home-area network to enhance consumer involvement in energy management.
“Our approach to personal energy management is to provide interoperable systems that accommodate the ability to use home-area networking for consumer education, flexible pricing programs and demand response,” said Michelle Mindala-Freeman, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Landis+Gyr. “The Command Center 4.0 release represents the next step in bringing user-friendly and cost-efficient personal energy management solutions to our advanced metering customers.”
Oncor, the largest power delivery company in Texas, is the first to use this software to allow deployment of personal energy management devices as part of its full-scale Gridstream system installation and in alignment with the requirements and timeline for home-area networking as outlined by the Texas Public Utility Commission.
The system is designed to be compatible with Smart Energy Profile 1.0 certified devices. A variety of personal energy management device manufacturers, including Tendril, LS Research, Energate and Comverge, have worked with Landis+Gyr on interoperability testing. Command Center 4.0 also supports the Landis+Gyr ecoMeter in-home display, which will be available to the US market this summer.
"The Gridstream platform offers the full range of security features available within the Smart Energy Profile standards, which is something that sets Landis+Gyr apart from many others," said Michael Delage, VP of Product Management at Energate, a smart thermostat and HAN energy management solution provider. "Energate has been very impressed with the capabilities of the Landis+Gyr team, as well as with their robust product offering."
Tendril, creator of the first integrated software and hardware energy management system for utilities and their customers, also participated in interoperability testing with Landis+Gyr for this system release. “We look forward to continuing to integrate with Landis+Gyr and taking advantage of an open operating environment to provide and support our TREE platform and smart energy software applications across the Gridstream network,” said Mike Ruth, senior director of product strategy for Tendril.
The personal energy management interface in Command Center not only provides two-way communication with networked devices, but also can serve as a link between the utility and consumer web portals and other services to give consumers online access to data and control over appliance and HVAC settings.
